Arcana Mods Muted+ DLC Rebuildable Tank Atomiser

The Muted+ DLC presents the form factor of the Muted+ RTA finished in a brushed Diamond-Like Carbon coating. Technically it is the very same atomiser, so everything that makes the Muted+ special is here untouched. The difference is all in the surface. DLC is a carbon-based coating that is extremely hard and highly resistant to scratches, and the brushed finish gives the tank a darker, notably more noble appearance. The coating is applied to the main body and to the drip tip base with its steel mouthpiece.

The idea at the heart of the Muted is a lovely one. Where most atomisers announce their airflow with a whistle and a visible row of holes, the Muted does exactly what its name suggests. It is a side-air RTA whose inlets are hidden from view, so it draws almost silently and keeps a wonderfully clean, minimalist look. That hidden side airflow, first proven on the Cocoon RTA and developed in close coordination with Steampipes, brings a real practical benefit on side by side mods too, where a concealed inlet cannot be accidentally covered by your hand or the mod itself.

Three ways to take your air

The Muted+ DLC pairs that hidden side air with a second, bottom airflow path. Arcana call it a Triple-Air RTA, because you can run it three ways: as a pure side-air tank for that near silent, invisible draw, as a pure bottom-air tank, or with both paths open together. Everything is set simply by swapping airpins, with no need to change any other part.

Out of the box the Muted+ DLC is set up primarily for Mouth-to-lung (MTL), and it gives you plenty of room to dial in the exact draw you like. You get a full set of side airpins, 0.6mm, 0.8mm, 0.9mm and 1.0mm, plus a fully closed pin, and a set of bottom airpins in 0.6mm, 0.8mm and 1.2mm with their own closed pin. They swap in quickly without you having to take down your build. On the side air you can run one pin or a matched pair, and a pair opens the draw up further (two 0.8mm pins behave like roughly a single 1.13mm, two 1.0mm like around 1.41mm, and so on).

If you would like to open things up further still, a separately available RDL airpin set (1.3mm, 1.4mm and 1.6mm) teams up with the RDL airflow ring, which visibly exposes the air holes to allow the extra airflow an RDL draw needs. That ring is of course just as suitable on an MTL setup if you simply prefer the look. For tighter or more open MTL there are optional Tight MTL (0.6mm and 0.7mm) and Open MTL (1.1mm and 1.2mm) side airpin sets, and a Bottom-Airpin Kit (1.0mm, 1.4mm and 1.6mm) to extend the bottom airflow options too.

A single coil, kept simple

Underneath sits a straightforward single coil bottom deck with a genuinely spacious build area and a wrapping aid that helps you set the coil at exactly the right height, so it sits perfectly in the airflow for excellent compression. Position it a touch lower for more throat hit, or higher for a softer compression if you prefer. A very small chamber above concentrates everything into the pure, intense flavour a well made MTL RTA does so well, and the draw stays smooth and near silent with a punchy throat hit that never turns scratchy.

Top fill with liquid control

Filling is simple and mess free. A turn of the top cap anti-clockwise closes off the liquid control and opens the tank for topping up, then turning it back the other way seals the tank and opens the liquid control again. There is a neat safeguard built in too: the ring beneath the top cap rotates if you grip more than just the cap, which stops you opening the tank by accident. The 4.1ml borosilicate glass tank holds a generous amount for an atomiser this size, and an optional tank extension adds a further 2ml at a time if you would like to carry more between fills.

Made to Arcana's standard, and made your own

As you would expect from Arcana Mods and Pipeline, the Muted+ DLC is machined from 316L stainless steel with borosilicate glass tank sleeves and PEEK insulation, and no visible O-rings to spoil the lines. The brushed DLC coating on the body and drip tip base is where it earns its name, hard wearing and resistant to the scratches and marks everyday carry can bring, while looking superb. It comes with the Muted drip tip base and both a 316L stainless steel and a POM mouthpiece, so you can set the feel and warmth of the draw to your taste. From there it is lovely to personalise, with accent rings in different colours (to coordinate with mods from Arcana & Pipeline), various tip options, a nano tank kit, alternate top caps such as the 2Gear, the Bottom-Airpin Kit, and a diamond-cut conversion kit to make your Muted+ DLC your own. Handily, the Muted+ and the original Muted share nearly all of their parts, so they interchange freely, the only exceptions being the beauty rings and the bottom airpins.

In common with all atomisers, allow a few minutes after building, wicking and filling for the cotton to fully saturate before your first vape, to avoid any dry hits.

*IMPORTANT NOTES
The Muted+ DLC is a self-winding, rebuildable atomiser and is supplied without a coil, so it is intended for experienced vapers who are comfortable building and wicking their own. Each air pin has its size engraved on it for easy identification. As with all rebuildables, please check your build and resistance on a suitable device before use.

The Muted+ DLC ships set up with a 15x1 O-ring at the top of the base and a 16x1 O-ring at the bottom, which is our recommended configuration. The spare parts bag includes both sizes, so you can tune the liquid control to your liking: two 15x1 O-rings for a very smooth action, two 16x1 for a tighter one, or the standard mix of a 15x1 on top and a 16x1 on the bottom for something in between.
