The original VPrime earned a loyal following for good reason, and the VPrime 2 is OXVA doing what they do best, taking a proven device and quietly sharpening aspect of it. The result is a compact pod kit that feels genuinely grown up, with a bigger battery, faster charging and a new generation of pods, all wrapped in a slim zinc-alloy body that sits neatly in the hand and the pocket.

The headline is the battery. OXVA has lifted capacity to a generous 3400mAh here, which is an all-day run time (or more) for most vapers. When it is time to top up the battery, USB-C fast charging at 5V/3A brings it back quickly, and a crisp 0.98 inch colour screen keeps you informed of charge level, wattage and mode at a glance.

Power runs from 5W to 60W, adjustable to suit the pod you are running, and you also get two quick power output modes to switch between:

• Eco Mode: A cooler, gentler output that stretches your battery further and keeps the focus on flavour.
• Boost Mode: A warmer, punchier draw with more vapour when you want the device to give its all.

The kit comes with two of OXVA's new VPrime UniTech 3.0 Dual Mesh pods, and this is where the Boost and Eco modes really earn their keep. OXVA calls it "two pods, four experiences", because each pod gives you a different draw depending on the mode you pick:

• 0.4Ω pod: 10-40W in Eco for a smooth, everyday Direct To Lung vape, or 40-60W in Boost for a warmer, fuller DTL cloud.
• 0.6Ω pod: 10-35W in Eco for a tighter Restricted Direct To Lung draw, or 35-50W in Boost when you want more warmth and vapour.

The VPrime 2 also remains compatible with the single coil VPrime pods.

Both the included pods happily take higher VG liquids, so whether you prefer an airy DTL cloud or a tighter RDL draw, there is a setting here to suit. Two mesh strips inside each pod spread the heat evenly for cleaner, richer flavour and, OXVA reckons, up to double the lifespan of a single-mesh coil.

Refilling is a genuinely mess-free affair thanks to a side-fill port sealed with a silicone plug, and an ergonomic adjustable airflow control lets you dial the draw from tight and flavourful to open and airy. You can fire the device however you prefer too, with responsive Ultra Auto-Draw activation for inhale-and-go simplicity, or the manual fire button when you want full control.

In common with all pods and coils, you'll want to allow 5-10 minutes after filling for the first time to ensure your e-liquid wicks through to fully saturate the coil before using it.
